San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and it's biggest city, so of course there is plenty to do there. But what is there to do outside of it? See our favorites!
Puerto Viejo
Puerto Viejo is a small town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is easily reachable from San Jose by bus or by car. The town is small but has a vibrant night life, enough bars, restaurants and parties to keep you busy and happy. In addition to that, it is located between Manzanillo and Cahuita national parks, both of which are a must!
La Fortuna
The town itself is not that impressive, but it is on the base of Arenal, an active volcano that holds the tenth longest eruption (which lasted from 1968 until 2010). The area is full of thermal waters, spa locations and much more nature. It is one of the most visited area in Costa Rica by both locals and foreign tourists. A must visit for sure!
Santa Teresa
One of the harder to reach beaches, but beautiful nonetheless! Santa Teresa is home to many water sports, and beautiful beaches. Being harder to reach does not stop the area from being frequented by tourists, even by some celebrities!
Final thoughts
Costa Rica is full of beautiful places, these are our favorites so far! We enjoyed each and every one of them in many different ways. I hope that this post gives you ideas where to go to not stay only in San Jose, because the country is much more than it's capital city.
