Escape to Hejnice for a relaxing weekend filled with nature, history, and charming local culture.

How to get there
For someone that is not originally from Czech Republic (and even for some people that are) this name rings no bell. The village is located in the north of the country and it can be easily reached from Prague by taking a bus to Liberec and from there a train to Hejnice.
What to do there
Spa resort Libverda - The next village (10 minutes walk) offers a modern spa (pool and saunas) for the whole family. The place is small and they allow only a limited amount of people at any time so you need to register.

Hike - The area offers many hikes with different kinds of views. From rocky formations, to forest and waterfalls. Walk along one of the very well marked routes and enjoy what the nature has to offer

Hike to the brewery - A personal favorite, Albrecht brewery is located just a few hours walk from Hejnice, and they offer a great variety of their own beers. On the way you will pass rural views, small villages and a forest, and in the destination you will get a cold beer. Can't get much better than that

Where to stay
There are plenty of nice places to stay in the village and its surroundings but our favorite were Pension HEJNICE which was a very cozy homestay, and the Hejnice abbey which is an abbey turned hostel.

Where to eat
Restaurace Delnicky dum was the first restaurant we discovered. It was so good that we just had to come back every day. The food was great and the atmosphere even better. Our second favorite restaurant in the area - Obri sud. Other than more tasty food, they also offer their own beer. (Update 2025-03-08 - Obri sud is permanently closed :( )
Final thoughts
This small village had so much to offer us. We even found reasons to come back when our baby son grows a bit and can enjoy more of the activities the area has to offer. Do you know of other Czech hidden gems like this one? Let me know!
