Got hungry in Santo Domingo and don't know what to do? Look at these suggestions and you might defeat your hunger!
Local flavors
El Conuco - Located in Gascue, just outside Zona Colonial, lies one of the best Dominican restaurants in the city. They offer a variety of local dishes (try the mofongo!) in a very local vibe, and on some days they even have a live bachata show done by the staff!
Yokomo - Located in Gascue as well, this chain of sushi restaurants takes the foreign sushi dish and adds to it local ingredients like plantain, fried rice and more! This is definitely our favorite in the city, a must visit for all sushi lovers!
D'Luis parrillada - Located on the malecon, another local restaurant specialized more on seafood, try a fish, or a shrimp coctail - you will not regret it!
Foreign food
Samurai - A high end Japanese restaurant. The restaurant bring the Japanese cosine to you, you can even reserve a table where they make the food in front of you! The food is amazing, but it also costs like it tastes, so be ready for that!
Trattoria Nicola - An amazing Italian restaurant located in Piantini. They have a great variety of food, the best being their homemade pastas, together with their choice of Italian wine.
Trattoria Pizzareli - Another Italian restaurant located in Piantini, that has a vast choice of food, but their pizzas are by far their best product! Offering red or white pizzas (try the pistachio one!) and some Italian beer to go along with it.
Fast food in the city center
Falafel Zona Colonial - A great place for all the falafel lovers, also one of the best vegan options in the city! The place is small and cozy and the food is amazing!
El patio culinario - In the heart of Zona colonial there is a food court, which has this place as one of the food options. Anything from a hambuger to a giant baguette to conquer your hunger!
Zona Taco - A great place offering mainly Mexican food, and also has a variety of imported beers. As the name suggests, go to this place for the tacos!
On a budget
Asadero Chino - This is our favorite place in Chinatown. Big portions for low prices, and they are very tasty too! What else do you need?
Villar Hermanos - A buffet style restaurant, in which you order food by the weight. Offers mainly local dishes like rice, beans, plantain, chicken, and fish.
Pica pollo - This is more a dish or a style of food than a place, and there are plenty of places that sell it. Definitely the cheapest food you can get in the country, usually consists of fried rice and some chicken, but the option vary in each place you visit. Just follow the signs that say Picapollo, and you will get the local food experience
