Planning your ski trip or your summer stay in Bansko? Make sure you visit these places to make your belly happy!
Bansko is a town in the south of Bulgaria, home to the largest ski center in the Balkans and home to summer digital nomad activities. The town is also home to many restaurants and Mehanas (local traditional restaurants) which will allow you to try local and international cuisine. Here are our favorites
Mehana Chevermeto
If you want to discover the local atmosphere and food, you should opt in to eat at one of the Mehanas. Our favorite in town is Chevermeto, that is located just next to the main square. We like it so much because the combination of the price, taste of food, service and atmosphere (and the grill in the middle!). This Mehana is frequented mainly by the locals, so you can get the full Bulgarian experience!
Mehana Bai Kotse
Another great Mehana, but this one is mainly frequented by tourists. So if you want share your experience with fellow travelers then head on here and try the amazing food and great service. Keep in mind that this one is very busy, so you might consider making a reservation ahead of time.
George & Mary Family Restaurant
This is actually the first restaurant I ever ate in in Bansko. The place is cozy and big, and the food is just fantastic. They serve a mix between local and international cuisine. There is plenty of sitting space and even a terrace for eating outside in the summer months
75's Tasty
My favorite fast food option in Bansko. They have a variety of fast food and they even have a table or two in case you want to eat there. I did not try the whole menu but the burgers are great
EL TACOS
My second favorite fast food, mainly because of the atmosphere. The guys running it are friendly and the tacos are great. The outdoor sitting space is great for the summer chillout time
Skabrin RestoBar
If you are more into fine dining this is the place for you. The restaurant defines itself as "progresive Bulgarian cuisine". It offers only a 3 course meal in which you have some options to choose the courses. They even serve craft beer, which is a rare thing in Bansko. The place is quite small so consider to make a reservation ahead of time.
Bonus - Pivoteka Craft Beer Mountain Base
If we already mentioned craft beer, how can I leave out my absolute favorite place in town? It does not serve food, but it is by far the best beer place in town, having 6 beers on tap and having a mix of dozens of local and foreign craft beers. And the best part? They are open all year long!
Final thoughts
As always, this list is merely a list of MY favorite places. There are plenty more restaurants in town, located all around, open in different times of the year and attracting different crowds. I do consider these places to be the best to eat at in Bansko, so if this list helped you to narrow your choices and you enjoyed a meal, let me know!
