Best things to do in Quito

Ecuador was one of my favorite countries on our Latin American trip, and Quito is one of the reasons why. There are plenty of things to do, keep reading and find out here which places I liked

Teleferico

The cable car in Quito is quite short, and we actually did not use it. Instead, we walked up to the top and enjoyed the view of the city for free!

A bonus on the way is Vulqano park, a local amusement park. It was not too impressive, but if you are looking for an adrenaline rush try one of the old rides they have (they promised that they are totally safe, but we didn't feel that way)

Bicentenario park

A large city park that used to be an airport. A perfect place to walk around, especially if you have a dog. Or just have a beer and chill.

La Mariscal artisan market

One of the best artisan markets I encountered. Not because it is so big or so impressive, but because it actually had a lot of merchandise I actually wanted to buy!

Visit the middle of the world

A bus ride away from the city's north terminal, you will find the town of San Antonio. In this town you will find the monument that marks the center of the world 0,0,0.

On the premises you will also find a planetarium and a museum that explains some interesting phenomena about the place and tell you the history of it. You will also discover that the actual center of the world is located a few kilometers away on the top of a hill, and this one was just a miscalculation!

Calle La Ronda

Our local friends told us this is the place to be, and they were right! A lively street with a lot of bars, restaurants, street artists and just good vibes. Stroll around or have a beer, or sit down for dinner while listening to some music!

El Panecillo

A hill in the middle of the city, so tall that you get a view of the entire city. On the top of the hill you will find a statue with a lot of history, which will allow you to climb even higher for a better view.

Drink some beer

As always, I can't visit a city without feeding my favorite hobby, beer. Ecuador surprised me with the amount of craft beer they had before craft beer was cool. So just choose a place and let your inner beer enthusiat enjoy.

My favorite places were:

  • Beer Corner EC

  • Camino del Sol Cerveceria

  • Abysmo

Final thoughts

Quito is a very big city. I did not manage to cover all of it in the few days that I spent there, but I did enjoy it a lot. The city is very friendly and it even has functioning public transport (beware of pickpocketers though!). If this list helped you, let me know. If you discovered some places not on this list, let me know where to visit next time!
