Dominican Republic is full of a variety of delicious food, and of great places to get it from. Some are known and some, less. Here is a list of places that your belly will thank you if you don't miss out on!
I like to eat, but I do not consider myself a foodie. But somehow these places made a lasting impression on my taste buds and I consider myself lucky enough to find myself eating this amazing food! Enjoy this list, and I hope you are as lucky as me and get to visit some of these places!
Zu - Las Terrenas
Hands down the best ceviche I ever had in my life, and the atmosphere is great! The restaurant is located on the beach in Las Terrenas and is managed by a guy that knows his way around fish. If you are into seafood, this place is for you!
Yokomo Sushi - Santo Domingo
Japanese flavors with a Dominican touch. You will see a lot of plantain, avocado and sauces from local ingredients. The taste is great, and the prices as well. It is a local chain so they have restaurants in a few more locations, and even a food truck.
Foodtopia - Barahona
A food court in the middle of Barahona. You can find there any fast food you can imagine, and the service is quite fast and unusual for the country. Everything tastes amazing and the vibe is great! If you magae to get there toward the end of the working day you will also hear some great stories from the people working in the court.
Restaurante playa del sol - Juan Dolio
There are many restaurants on every beach and almost all of them make fried fish, but somehow this fish in this restaurant struck me as the best one on the island. This is the sole reason of this restaurant being on this list! Other than this dish, it is fairly similar to anything else on the beach.
El Patio de Homeboy Food Truck - La mina (Miches)
Kind of in the middle of nowhere, but oh how good it is. A food truck that serves fast food. It is extremely lively and the food is very good and served in an original way. If you camp nearby like we did, this is the best place to get food around!
Final thoughts
These places are scattered around the country, and I don't think that it is worth going around just for these (but hey, maybe I'm not enough of a foodie for that). We discovered all of these Dominican Republic's hidden gems on the way somewhere, and so glad that we did! So if you are in the area of one of them, be sure to visit!
