Tulum is a chill town in Quintana Roo, the relaxed vibes are contagious and it is easy to get stuck there. If you are there, here are my favorite spots to hang out
For Diving - The Mayan Cave
If you read my post about Cenote diving, you will know which Cenotes you should visit. If you need a dive center that will get you the equipment and get you there, The Mayan Cave is the place for you. The service is great, the equipment is well maintained and the guides are amazing!
For eating - Bonita Tulum's Burger Bar
There are a lot of places to eat around, but this one is my absolute favorite. The burgers are amazing, and it helps that they have craft beer!
For Staying - Xkeken hostel
I spent here a lot of time, hanging out with the guys that were working there, eating breakfast on the rooftop, taking yoga classes and just chilling. Unfortunately I discovered that the place was closed since my last stay there, but I decided to keep this section so you know how much I liked it there.
For hanging out - Cara Feliz
This is probably the most unique place in town. They serve some bar food and craft beer, but the place is a library! You can reed books while you're there, socialize with other people, and on some days they would even have live music!
For catching sun and history - Archeological zone Tulum
The Tulum ruins are located just outside of the town. You can either walk or cycle there (or, for the lazier ones, get a taxi). The ruins of what was a walled port city are in great shape (for ruins), with a lot of area to cover. Enjoy the pre-Colombian buildings and lizards catching sun. The best part? The ruins have access to a lively beach!
Final thoughts
Tulum was one of the only places in my Latin American travels that I was really feeling like I could live there. The relaxing vibe is contagious, and the dentists are good (but that's a story for another post). If you find yourself there, I hope this list will help you out in choosing where to go.
