If you are like me, not lucky enough to have a passport that allows you to just visit the United Arab Emirates, here is what you need to do to get one.
The United Arab Emirates is a beautiful country to visit. People from a lot of countries of the world do not need to get visa prior to their travels and can just can an automatic visa on arrival. At the point of writing these lines I am also able to get my visa on arrival, but when I went to UAE that wasn't the case, so I just wanted to share what I did.
Visa requirements
The list of countries that their citizens are allowed entry without visa. You can easily check whether you passport requires a visa by looking on the Emirates website. From my experience there are always local tour agencies that can take care of the visa for you, but I have found that doing it yourself is cheaper.
Technically all you need to have for applying for a tourist visa is:
A copy of your passport and a passport photo
Travel insurance
A guarantor (anyone inside UAE), that also needs to file some documents
Whatever the current COVID rules are requiring
That's it. You have the option of choosing between 14/30/90 days visa, single or multiple entries. The price of the visa and the health insurance are changing based on your choice. I have applied for a single entrance, 14 day tourist visa.
The complicated part is the guarantor, as it has to be someone from within the country.
The guarantor
The travel agencies usually have a contact in UAE that is the guarantor, and the prices that I heard (correct for March 2021) were in the area of 90-150 USD just for the visa, insurance not included. It is also very easy to find travel agencies in UAE that can apply for the visa for you, and this is what I did. I found a company that is called Rayna Tours, and sent them an email asking about what is needed for the visa. After a very quick email exchange, they sent me an offer which was 100 USD with the insurance included in the price. The process is taking usually around a week, but I got my visa 2 days after sending my documents and payment. After that I sent them my ticket and accommodation information and I was good to go.
Final thoughts
This information is true for March 2021, but you can easily find the updated requirements in the official websites of UAE. Did you find this post helpful? I'm glad. You didn't? i'm still glad that you at least read it.
